Minutes for Wednesday, 26 January 2011

A meeting of the ASC Latinas UNIDAS took place 
Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in Alston 304. 
The meeting was led by 
Co-Presidents Noelia Sandoval and Lissette Rodriguez


*****The meeting began with the guest speaker of the night Maria Azuri. With a Bachelors Degree from Georgia State and a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, Azuri now serves as the Program Coordinator of the Lifting Latina Voices Initiative (LLVI) at the Feminist Women’s Health Center. 


Azuri spoke to the group about how Latinas UNIDAS can become involved with LLVI whose objectives "are to empower Latinas through volunteer projects, learning experiences and workshops; and to develop a diverse group of Latinas to become our future leaders, activists and engaged citizens.” 


Azuri spoke of participating in advocacy and education programs to provide and empower Latinas with the education they need to keep themselves safe when engaging in sexual intercourse as well as gynecological resources available at the Feminist Women's Health Center (FWHC), which supports LLVI.

*****The meeting then turned to a discussion informing members of the emergency election for the Treasurer Exec board Position and a request for a volunteer to be the Community Service Chair. Both positions will be determined next meeting.


*****Finally, the meeting ended with the Spring 2011 Calendar of Events, which include events such as: Salsa Night, Cèsar Chàvez, Unity Banquet, and more!

Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in Alston 304.
